FDA Approves First Intravenous Formulation of Acetaminophen

Finally US FDA approves the first and only preparation containing acetaminophen that can be used intravenously.

Manufacturer:Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Inc

Indications:

  • mild to moderate pain,
  • moderate to severe pain with adjunctive opioid analgesics,
  • reduction of fever.

Special Consideration & Guidelines:

Ofirmev is to be administered only as a 15-minute infusion. Max daily dose should not exceed 4g.

Adverse effects:

nausea,
vomiting,
constipation,
pruritus,
agitation,
atelectasis

Caution:

Caution is advised when treating patients with hepatic impairment or active liver disease, alcoholism, chronic malnutrition, severe hypovolemia, or severe renal impairment.
